The South-South Development Commission (SSDC), has distributed relief materials to communities affected by flooding and other environmental challenges in Bayelsa State.
A post by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the SSDC, Ms. Usoro Akpabio, on her verified Facebook handle on Tuesday, revealed that the gesture was in response to a request from the Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency (BYSEMA).
According to Usoro, the SSDC Monitoring Team, handed over the Commission’s relief materials and supervised their distribution in Odi community, Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, and Emeyal community, in Ogbia LGA of the state, respectively.
The team, she said, was received by the Director-General of BYSEMA, Hon. Walamam Samuel Igrubia, alongside two Directors of the Agency, Mr. Amiefamonyo Braide Fredrick and Dr. Yaibimi Ayogoi Simeon.
Usuro said the intervention provided essential food supplies, household necessities, bedding and other welfare materials to vulnerable persons and affected families.
“As part of our institutional partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), we continue to coordinate on beneficiary data, needs assessments and emergency response information to avoid duplication, identify gaps and ensure humanitarian assistance reaches those most in need,” the post read.
Usoro also noted that the intervention reflects the Commission’s statutory mandate to address environmental, humanitarian and developmental challenges across the South-South region, while acknowledging the efforts of the Bayelsa State government in responding to the needs of affected communities.
Usoro emphasised the Commission’s commitment to delivering practical, people-centred interventions that alleviate hardship, protect vulnerable populations and strengthen community resilience in line with President Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda.
