Mrs Lizzy Ulunma Asomugha, who was elected Lady Captain on August 25, disclosed this at a press conference in the club house on Wednesday in Abuja.

Mrs Asomugha expressed an unwavering commitment to the goal of encouraging and inspiring women to take to playing golf.

Justifying her emphasis on supporting young ladies to take to golf, she said it is “in the hope that one day we will see many young Nigerian ladies, as professionals, competing at the international level and in several global golf competitions”.

She said, it was needless to restate that golf is a beautiful and interesting game that is very relaxing for the body and the mind.

Mrs Asomugha reiterated that there is no game, perhaps with the exception of chase, that requires as much concentration as golf.

According to her, golf is a game that builds the player’s character, helps to enhance friendship especially across class and age, and also helps in improving physical and mental health.

Mrs Asomugha who said she was introduced to golf about five years ago, expressed delight at the positive impact of the game in her life, stressing that her election as Lady Captain offers a great opportunity for contributing to the development of golf in Nigeria”.

Speaking earlier at the press conference, Nigeria’s first golf architect and grand patron of Parkland Golf Resort Club, Architect Muftau Bello pledged his support to the ladies wing activities.

He said the club caters to all categories of players including the young golfers who are called the junior tigers.

He assured all potential golf players to visit the club and get inspired by the lusch course and other exciting amenities at the club.

Meanwhile the Liz-Ulumaranma tournament slated for Saturday has continued to attract participants from golf clubs across the country.
