NPA partners JICA to enhance port efficiency, sustainability

By Abdullahi Lukman

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has entered into partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to improve the efficiency and sustainability of its ports.

The agreement was formalized during a meeting between Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, Managing Director/CEO of NPA, and Mr. Yuzurio Susumu, Chief Representative of JICA, at the NPA headquarters in Marina recently.

The two signatories held discussions focusing on leveraging technical expertise to make Nigerian ports more eco-friendly by incorporating renewable energy and increasing automation.

JICA, the Japanese agency responsible for Official Development Assistance (ODA), has been involved in various development projects in Nigeria, including capacity building for exporters and trade support organizations.

The partnership aims to further Nigeria’s energy sustainability goals and stimulate economic growth.

Dr. Dantsoho said that NPA’s efforts to make Nigerian ports more sustainable align with JICA’s objectives to promote long-term economic growth and development in Nigeria.
