Lagos green rail project will commence this year – Sanwo-Olu

By Faridat Salifu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced that the construction of the highly anticipated Green Line Rail project will commence this year.

This initiative, the third addition to the rail mass transit system under his administration, aims to significantly enhance transportation along the Eti Osa corridor.

The governor made this announcement during the unveiling of three newly constructed roads in the Eti Osa Local Government Area on Friday.

He said that the Green Line will run from Victoria Island to Ibeju Lekki, positioning it as a transformative solution for the region’s transportation challenges.

“We are collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Finance and our contractors to kick off the Green Line project this year,” Sanwo-Olu stated, highlighting the importance of this development in alleviating traffic congestion in the area.

In addition to the Green Line announcement, the governor revealed the completion of the upgraded Chief Yesufu Abiodun Oniru Road and Akiogun Road, measuring 2.8 kilometers in total.

These upgrades are expected to alleviate gridlock around Victoria Island and Admiralty Circle Plaza. The newly constructed 550-meter Abudu Street, which provides a direct route to the Lekki-Epe Expressway, was also inaugurated.

Sanwo-Olu reiterated that these infrastructure projects are essential components of the Transportation and Traffic Management Pillar of his administration’s THEMES + Agenda.
