Gombe Govt, ACReSAL, others kickstart 2024 tree planting activities

By Grace Samuel

The Gombe State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has recently launched its weekly tree planting project for the year 2024 in collaboration with JEWEL Environmental Initiative, a focal NGO, and other environmental NGOs.

The project was initiated with the onset of the rainy season and aims to restore not less than 300,000 hectares of degraded land under its plantation activities, which is in line with the aspiration of the present administration to plant one million trees each year.

During the tree planting exercise, which was carried out on the newly constructed roads from Suleman Kumo House, the State Auditor General Office, and Liberty Junction—Behind Shehu Abubakar Guest House, Behind Jewel Suite, and Government House Main Gate, Jekadafari, Dr. Sani Adamu Jauro, the Gombe State ACReSAL Project Coordinator, spoke to pressmen and expressed his support for the 3G, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s flagship program.

Muhammad Musa Aliyu, the ACReSAL Natural Resources Officer, also commented on the tree planting activity, stating that over 400 seedlings were planted during the exercise, with the target of planting one million or more before the end of the year.

The project coordinator encouraged individuals and communities to support the 3G and ACReSAL activities to protect the environment and save lives.

He emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture of environmental sustainability and the need to be mindful of the impact of human activities on the environment.

In response to the tree planting initiative, the councillor representing Jekadafari expressed gratitude on behalf of the community members and assured that the trees would be tended and nurtured to maturity.

This is a significant step towards achieving a more sustainable and eco-friendly environment, and it is hoped that more communities will join the cause to preserve the environment.
