By Abdullahi Lukman

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to adopt sustainable food practices, support farmers and reduce food waste to improve food security and ensure access to safe and nutritious meals for every household.

She made the call in her message to mark the 2026 World Food Day, observed on Friday, October 16, under the theme, “Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow.”

The First Lady emphasised the need to combine modern innovations with traditional knowledge to build resilient food systems and secure a healthier future for generations to come.

She also called for collective action to promote sustainable agricultural practices, preserve valuable traditional farming knowledge and strengthen efforts to address food insecurity across the country.

According to her, sustained commitment to these measures would help ensure that Nigerian families have access to safe and nutritious food.

Tinubu expressed optimism that greater support for farmers, responsible food consumption and the adoption of sustainable practices would contribute to a healthier and more food-secure nation.

She wished Nigerians a happy World Food Day 2026.
