The Jigawa State Government has approved billions of naira for solar-powered electricity, water supply, educational infrastructure, agricultural development and constituency projects across the state.
The approvals were among the major decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, October 19, 2026, chaired by Governor Umar A. Namadi.
According to a summary of the council’s resolutions issued by the state government, the approved projects are aimed at improving public infrastructure, expanding access to essential services and supporting economic development across Jigawa’s communities.
The council approved ₦380.14 million for the supply and installation of solar-powered systems at information and communication technology (ICT) centres and 21 secondary schools across the state.
The initiative is expected to provide more reliable electricity for digital learning, ICT training and skills acquisition while reducing dependence on conventional power sources.
The government also approved ₦432.6 million for the construction of 21 solar-powered water supply schemes in communities across the state.
The projects are designed to improve access to clean and reliable drinking water while reducing energy costs and interruptions associated with conventional water supply systems.
In the education sector, the council approved ₦977.97 million for the establishment of a Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre at the College of Health Sciences, Jahun, and computer laboratories in four secondary schools.
The CBT centre will receive ₦518.01 million, while ₦459.96 million has been allocated for computer laboratories at Government Day Secondary School, Gwaram; Government Day Secondary School, Kazaure; Government Day Secondary School, Ringim; and Government Day Science and Technical College, Kafin Hausa.
The facilities are expected to improve students’ access to digital learning resources, strengthen computer literacy and prepare learners for computer-based examinations.
The council also approved the Jigawa State Policy on Gender in Education and its implementation guidelines to promote inclusive and equitable access to education.
Supported by the Jigawa State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment project, the policy is intended to address socio-cultural barriers affecting school enrolment, participation, retention and learning outcomes, particularly among girls and other vulnerable groups.
In another major decision, the council approved ₦1.478 billion for constituency projects across the state’s 30 constituencies.
The projects include the construction and renovation of prayer mosques and traditional leaders’ residences, interlocking works, cemetery perimeter walls, solar installations, generator procurement and the provision of prayer carpets and mats.
The council further approved ₦675.13 million in compensation for owners of affected structures, farmlands and economic trees associated with agricultural transformation projects being implemented through the Jigawa State Agricultural Transformation Agency.
The compensation relates to the development of irrigation projects, agro-industrial clusters and special agro-processing zones covering designated locations across the state.
The affected sites span several local government areas, including Yankwashi, Kazaure, Ringim, Dutse, Gwaram, Gumel, Malam Madori and Taura.
The government said the payments were intended to compensate affected property owners and farmers for assessed losses while facilitating the implementation of the agricultural development projects.
The agricultural investments are expected to strengthen irrigation infrastructure, improve farming activities and support the development of agricultural value chains across Jigawa State.
The series of approvals reflects the state government’s continued focus on expanding infrastructure, improving access to essential services, strengthening education and supporting agricultural transformation through investments across its local communities.
