The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), has called on Nigerians to abide by environmental laws and regulations to ensure cleaner and healthier environment.

The Director -General of NESREA, Prof. Aliyu Jauro, made the call while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.

Jauro called on Nigerians to acquaint themselves with and abide by environmental regulations as well as report offenders.

“The agency is the enforcement arm of the Federal Ministry of Environment, so we are set up to ensure that people comply with environmental laws, guidelines, regulations and policies,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the agency recently sealed 15 facilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for violating environmental laws.

He said that the exercise was in line with the agency’s vision of ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for all Nigerians.

The NESREA boss disclosed that the agency would soon embark on a nationwide enforcement to ensure adherence to the laws.

NESREA is the foremost environmental enforcement agency in the country, charged with the responsibility of enforcing environmental laws, guidelines, policies, standards and regulations in Nigeria.
