NEMA Hands Over Relief Materials to Families Affected by Patigi Boat Mishap in Kwara

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has handed over a range of essential items, including foodstuff, clothes, and household materials, for distribution among the families of victims and survivors.

Almost two weeks after the tragic boat mishap that claimed the lives of 107 individuals across four villages in the Patigi local government area of Kwara state, NEMA has arrived to provide much-needed relief.

Led by Director General Mustapha Ahmed, the NEMA team expressed heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Kwara state for the unfortunate incident.

During the handover, Director General Ahmed announced the delivery of the relief materials, emphasizing their significance in assisting the affected individuals and families during this challenging time.

In response, Kayode Alabi, the Deputy Governor of Kwara state, expressed gratitude to the federal government for providing the relief materials, recognizing the positive impact they would have in
alleviating the suffering of the affected communities.

However, the Deputy Governor also expressed disappointment with the residents of Patigi for not adequately utilizing the life jackets provided to them by the state government in previous years.

He emphasized the importance of using life jackets during water travel to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The boat mishap occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 12th at approximately 3 am. The relief materials provided by NEMA aim to bring some comfort and support to the families affected by this tragic incident.
