LASG seeks increased climate funding for vulnerable cities

The Lagos State Government has called for increased climate financing and stronger global partnerships to help vulnerable cities address the impacts of climate change.
Speaking at the Berlin Climate Mobility Forum 2026 in Germany, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, urged developed nations to move beyond promises and provide practical support for climate-vulnerable regions, particularly in the Global South.
Wahab stressed the need for localised climate financing, technology transfer, flood-modelling tools and coastal engineering support to help cities adapt to rising sea levels and other climate-related threats.
He noted that climate change remains a shared global challenge affecting coastal cities worldwide and called for greater investment in resilient infrastructure to protect lives and livelihoods.
According to him, while Lagos is ready to lead climate action efforts, meaningful progress will require sustained international cooperation and support.
