The Kano State Government has suspended the manager of the Thomas Regional Water Scheme over alleged sabotage and vandalism of facilities intended to address water scarcity in the state.
The suspension was announced on Monday during an inspection tour of the Thomas and Ghari Regional Water Schemes by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dahiru Muhammad-Hashim.
According to the commissioner, critical infrastructure, including electrical wiring connected to generators and pumps, had been vandalised, while a power project completed three months ago and awaiting commissioning was reportedly looted.
He also disclosed that security personnel assigned to protect the facility were found using the premises for farming activities.
Muhammad-Hashim said the suspension would remain in effect pending investigations, adding that anyone found culpable would face legal action.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Abba Kabir Yusuf to rehabilitating the state’s water infrastructure and called on residents to help safeguard public assets.
