The Kogi State Government has begun demolishing illegal structures and intensifying enforcement of environmental, sanitation and physical planning regulations across Lokoja metropolis.
The development was published on the official Kogi State Government website on Thursday, highlighting the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental enforcement in the state.
The exercise is being carried out by relevant state agencies as part of efforts to remove structures and activities that violate environmental and physical planning regulations.
The government said the enforcement is aimed at protecting public spaces, improving environmental conditions and ensuring compliance with approved planning standards.
Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Hon. Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun Stephen, said the government remained committed to restoring environmental discipline across Lokoja.
He urged residents, traders and property owners to comply with environmental and physical planning regulations and avoid activities that obstruct roads, drainage channels and other public infrastructure.
The enforcement also reflects the wider challenge of managing rapid urban development while protecting drainage systems, public spaces and the general environment.
The government said the exercise would continue as monitoring and enforcement are strengthened across identified areas.
