Located in Northern Tanzania, the Kilimanjaro Region boasts a rich and intriguing history.
Officially established in 1963, it originally comprised the districts of Kilimanjaro and Pare. Before independence, this area was part of the Northern Province of Tanganyika, which also included districts like Arusha and Mbulu. The Pare District was connected to the Tanga Province.
At the heart of this region lies Mount Kilimanjaro, an awe-inspiring peak that rises approximately 5,900 meters, making it not only Africa’s tallest mountain but also the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
Its iconic status has earned it a place among the Seven Summits—the highest peaks on each continent—drawing adventurers and nature enthusiasts from around the globe.
The attractions of the Kilimanjaro Region are as varied as its history. Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, serves as a natural paradise for trekkers and eco-tourists alike.
