Flood: Abuja Residents cautioned against blocking of drainage

By Abdulrahman Abdullahi

The Nigerian Institute of Planners, FCT chapter has called on residents of Abuja to devoid from blocking of drainage and erecting of building along River banks to avoid flooding.

The Vice President of the Institute, Lami Ayuba said this in a statement made available to the Nigeria News Agency (NAN) in Abuja.

Ayuba also urged developers to strictly adhere to the provisions of the Abuja master plan.

According to her, the main cause of flooding in FCT are blocking of drainages, not seeking approval prior to the start of any development and construction along river banks or areas prone to flooding.

She, therefore, urged residents to report any suspicious development to the appropriate agencies and to avoid dumping waste along the water canals.

She called on the government at all levels to involve town planners at every stage of development for proper planning, monitoring and management of the territory.
