The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has called on the citizens of Kano to refrain from dumping refuse in drainages.
He emphasized that they should focus on addressing the challenges of floods instead of exacerbating the environmental situation.
The Emir made this plea in his Sallah message to the people of Kano, shortly after the Eid prayers on Wednesday, held at the Kofar Mata prayer ground in the ancient city.
He stated, “This action will reduce the damages caused by floods to both human lives and material resources in the state.”
Additionally, while receiving the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir, at Gidan Shetima, the Emir urged the citizens of Kano to actively participate in the upcoming census.
He emphasized that this would help Kano maintain its position as the most populous state in the country.
During a sermon after the Eid prayer at the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground, the Chief Imam of Kano, Emiratus Professor Sani Mohammed Zaharadeen, advised the Muslim ummah to embrace the culture of mutual assistance.
“For those who were able to perform the sacrifice of slaughtering animals, endeavor to share a portion of the sacrifice with those who could not perform the ritual,” he said.
Professor Zaharadeen further advised Muslim faithful to avoid enmity among themselves and instead promote unity by praying for continuous peace and harmony in the country.
Governor Abba Kabir of Kano State congratulated the people on a successful Eid El Kabir celebration and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises.
The Eid prayer was successfully conducted in the five emirate councils in the state.
Following the Eid prayers, families slaughtered their rams and other animals purchased for the celebration. Professional butchers had a busy day as they conducted brisk business by slaughtering and cutting the animals into appropriate sizes. Those interested in purchasing animal skins also took part in the bustling trade.
