Chicken price on the rise due to border closure, festivities — Poultry farmer

The Manager of Sawi Poultry, Mr Suleiman Momoh has said price of chicken is soaring due to border closure and the festive season.
Speaking to NatureNews on Friday at his poultry farm in Suleja Niger State, the manager said as it has always happened during festivities, chicken price is rising.

Mr Suleiman explained that the cost of a carton of chicks which used to be N16,000 recently rose to N22,000, which means each chick in a carton costs N440 each.
He attributed this to the high demand of birds and general increase in cost of commodities especially fuel.

In his words, “Due to the season of Christmas and New year, there is change in price because the higher the demand, the higher the supply and cost.
“The cost of transportation has increased, as fuel price also increased.
“Also, the closure of borders contributed to the hike in chicken price.”
Mr Suleiman said that the cost of a grown chicken ranging from seven to eight weeks costs N4,000 or N4,500 while a chicken above two months costs N5,000 now.
The manager stressed that as the feeds and medication for the birds continue to increase daily, so will the price of chicken, saying that Nigerians who wish to buy chicken to celebrate the season should replan their budgets as prices niw change abruptly.
