The Benue State Government has said strategic and timely information is critical to helping communities adapt to climate change and other global developments affecting livelihoods, food production and security.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Solomon Iorpev, said this on Wednesday in Makurdi when he received members of the Benue State Council for Climate Change in his office.
Iorpev noted that changes in climate, the economy, technology and information systems are already influencing agriculture, livelihoods and public perception across the state.
He stressed the need for accurate, timely and people-centred information to enable farmers adapt to changing conditions, help young people respond to emerging opportunities and strengthen community resilience.
According to him, the ministry will expand grassroots communication, deploy digital platforms for early-warning information and collaborate with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and development agencies to close information gaps.
He added that building resilience requires cooperation between government and citizens, with communities better informed about global trends and local responses.
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Dr. Daniel Mailumo, said they were in the ministry to congratulate the commissioner on his appointment and seek collaboration on public awareness and mitigation of climate change effects.
