The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, convened a national workshop on Tuesday to review the outcomes of the 28th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP 28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Taking place at the Abuja Intercontinental Hotel, the workshop aimed to unpack the key achievements of COP 28 and prepare Nigeria for active participation in the upcoming 29th Conference of Parties in Azerbaijan.

Minister Lawal emphasized the workshop’s significance in addressing climate change, recognizing it as one of the greatest challenges of our time.

He highlighted COP 28 as a pivotal moment in global efforts to combat climate change, stressing the importance of collaboration, unity, and shared responsibility to advance Nigeria’s environmental objectives.

The outcomes of COP 28 were acknowledged to have profound implications for the planet’s future, necessitating a thorough assessment to identify successes, shortcomings, and areas for improvement.

Nigeria, like many nations, faces adverse impacts of climate change, including extreme weather events and biodiversity loss.

Participants were encouraged to engage in purposeful dialogue, exchange innovative ideas, and co-create actionable strategies to guide Nigeria towards sustainable development and environmental integrity.

Minister Lawal expressed gratitude to attendees for their commitment to environmental conservation and emphasized the critical role of active participation in shaping a resilient future.

The workshop underscores Nigeria’s dedication to addressing climate change challenges and advancing meaningful change towards a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
