Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has urged the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), a World Bank-funded program, to assist the state government in preparing for potential floods during the upcoming rainy season.
Governor Buni emphasized the critical need for constructing drainage systems to divert floodwaters away from towns and communities, highlighting this as an urgent measure to prevent flooding.
He underscored the severity of the situation, emphasizing that it should be treated as an emergency of utmost public importance to avert the looming threat of floods.
Additionally, Governor Buni called for adequate measures to support the resilience of resettled communities and safeguard reconstructed houses from flood damage.
Ms. Joy Iyanga Agene, the ACReSAL Team Leader, assured Governor Buni of the program’s commitment to supporting the state government in protecting its citizens from potential floods.
Ms. Agene commended the Yobe State government for fostering a conducive environment that enhances project performance within the state.
