The Mass Communication Class of 1987, University of Lagos, has mourned the passing of advertising veteran, Mr. Taiwo Osunsanya, describing his death as “an immense loss” to the set, the profession, and the nation.
In a statement signed by Class Coordinator, Alhaji Tajudeen Adeyemi, the alumni said Osunsanya was a connector, progressive thinker, and supportive classmate who championed unity within the set and remained active in the University of Lagos Mass Communication Alumni Association, UMCAA.
Osunsanya, who died on July 30, 2026, while on a train journey from Lagos to Ibadan, devoted over three decades to Nigeria’s advertising industry. He began at Grant Advertising and rose at LTC Advertising, where he helped align local media planning with global standards.
In 1994 he co-founded Campaign Palace Ltd, and in 1996 helped establish The Nucleus Company as Executive Media Director. In 2000 he founded The MediaPro Ltd, becoming a frontline player in Nigeria’s media independent sector.
He was also committed to capacity building, serving for years as an examiner for ARCON’s Postgraduate Diploma programme and authoring chapters for its training manual.
A Second-Class Upper graduate of UNILAG in 1987, he later obtained an M.Sc. in Advertising and Public Relations from the same institution. He is survived by his wife, Folake, and children.
Among his classmates are Prof. Lekan Akashoro, former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikma University, Ilorin; Mr Azeez Oladejo, former Registrar of University of Lagos; and Prof. Jide Jimoh, Dean of Media and Communications Faculty, Lagos State University.
