Saudi Arabia’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has issued heatwave warnings ahead of Hajj 2025, with temperatures expected to soar between 40°C and 47°C. Pilgrims are being urged to take precautions as authorities implement safety measures across the holy sites.
The NCM forecast includes intense heat, fluctuating humidity levels between 15% and 60%, possible thunderstorms, and low visibility caused by dust-laden winds blowing at 25–35 km/h.
Thunderstorms may affect Mecca and surrounding areas between the 8th and 13th of Dhu Al Hijjah, especially near the Taif highlands.
In response, over 880 air conditioners, 244 mist fans, and more than 3,000 ventilation units have been installed.
Authorities have also deployed 400 electric carts and opened cooled pedestrian walkways under the “Cooled Roads Initiative” to ease movement and reduce surface temperatures.
The Saudi Ministry of Health confirmed five cases of heat exhaustion among over one million arriving pilgrims.
All cases were treated promptly, and health teams remain on high alert. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include dizziness, headache, and nausea, which can escalate to life-threatening heat stroke if untreated.
To reduce risks, the government is expanding shaded areas, installing 400 new water coolers, and planting over 10,000 trees.
Pilgrims are advised to stay hydrated, wear protective gear, and monitor official weather alerts throughout the pilgrimage.
