Residents of Jalingo demand connection to Kashimbila Hydro-Power Station

By Faridat Salifu

Residents of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, have raised their voices and demand for immediate a link of the city to the Kashimbila Hydro-Power Station, located in the southern region of the state.

The people speaks out their frustrations over alleged unequal distribution of power within Taraba State.

They said they have been grappling with power outages for over 12 days adding that the capacity of the sub- station serving them to generate 40 megawatts is doubtful.

They expressed dismay at the disparity, highlighting the uninterrupted power supply enjoyed by the southern senatorial zone while Jalingo and other areas contend with regular power outage.

The Jalingo residents highlighted the critical role of electricity in supporting the functioning of essential institutions, hospitals, and government ministries in Jalingo, given its status as the state capital and the concentration of population.

A resident in the state capital, Bulus James, drew attention to the perceived diversion of power from the Kashinbilla Hydro-Power Station to neighbouring states, leaving Jalingo and other parts of Taraba in darkness.

James cited the recent disruption in power supply from the Gombe power line, attributing it to vandalism.

He urged both the Federal and Taraba State governments to prioritize the connection of central and northern zones to the Kashinbilla Hydro-Power Station, underscoring the urgent need for equitable access to reliable electricity across the state.

As Jalingo residents continue to grapple with prolonged outages, their demands for swift action to address the energy crisis underscore the pressing need for inclusive and sustainable solutions to ensure access to electricity for all communities in Taraba State.
