Jon Rahm’s playoff loss in the Spanish Open to world number 398, Angel Hidalgo, highlighted golf’s unpredictability, a stark contrast to the United States’ dominant victory at the Presidents Cup in Montreal.
Despite Rahm’s birdie charge to force extra holes in Madrid, Hidalgo prevailed with consecutive birdies, securing his DP World Tour card. Meanwhile, the US triumphed over the Internationals 18½-11½, marking their 10th consecutive win.
Rahm’s Madrid appearance was crucial for retaining his DP World Tour card and Ryder Cup eligibility, while US captain Keegan Bradley looks ahead to next year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
