Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe: Christophe Soumillon set to ride Vadeni despite ban

Christophe Soumillon is set to ride Vadeni in Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe despite a 60-day ban for elbowing a rival out of the saddle.

The Belgian jockey was penalised after Friday’s incident with Rossa Ryan during a race at Saint-Cloud.

But the suspension does not begin until 14 October.

French racing’s rulers have admitted their discomfort at Soumillon being allowed to ride on Sunday in Europe’s richest race at ParisLongchamp.

“I am very uncomfortable about what happened,” said France Galop chief executive Oliver Delloye.

“Regarding the rules and any changes, we need to investigate very thoroughly and it has to take a little time.

“The current rules are as good as we can make them, but this sort of thing shouldn’t happen in racing.”

Ryan was unseated from his mount, but was back riding at Newmarket on Saturday.

“Look, it was something that happened that probably shouldn’t in racing, but the main thing is I’m 100% and the horse I rode is fine,” he said.
