By Abbas Nazil

Oman has outlined its green hydrogen and renewable energy ambitions while showcasing investment opportunities at India Energy Week held in Goa.

The presentation was delivered by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, with Under-Secretary Mohsin bin Hamad Al Hadhrami representing the Sultanate.

He told participants that Oman has moved beyond policy planning and is now actively implementing its clean energy strategy.

According to him, the country’s approach is guided by Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises energy security, economic diversification and environmental sustainability.

A central focus of Oman’s presentation was green hydrogen, which the country considers a core pillar of its future energy system.

Al Hadhrami said Oman has made significant progress in building a full ecosystem to support green hydrogen development.

Several large-scale green hydrogen projects have already been awarded, with total planned investments exceeding 50 billion dollars.

Oman is targeting annual production of about one million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030.

To support this ambition, the government is developing critical infrastructure including transport corridors, storage facilities and export terminals.

These facilities are intended to enable large-scale production and position Oman as a key player in the global hydrogen trade.

Alongside hydrogen, Oman is expanding its renewable energy portfolio through solar and wind power projects as well as waste-to-energy initiatives.

Together, these projects represent a combined installed capacity of approximately 4,515 megawatts.

The Ministry said the expansion would strengthen the national power grid, improve supply reliability and enhance the sustainability of the country’s energy mix.

Al Hadhrami noted that attracting international investors remains a priority for Oman’s clean energy transition.

He said the government has introduced regulatory and financial incentives designed to improve project viability and ensure long-term investor confidence.

Clear and transparent regulations, he explained, are central to making Oman an attractive destination for renewable energy investment.

During India Energy Week, which brought together participants from more than 100 countries, the Omani delegation held bilateral meetings with global energy companies and institutions.

The discussions focused on potential partnerships in clean energy technologies.

They also explored opportunities to apply artificial intelligence and digital solutions within the energy sector.

Oman has additionally completed a comprehensive review of its carbon-neutral strategy.

This review includes measures to improve energy efficiency across industries and targeted investments in education and skills development.

The goal, according to officials, is to prepare the local workforce for emerging opportunities in the green economy.

Through its participation at the event, Oman reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation.

The country also reiterated its long-term objective of achieving sustainable development and a net-zero future through diversified and resilient energy systems.
