Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State and the governors of the 19 northern states have encouraged their wives in energizing and supporting them in fight against drug addiction in the region.
Ishaku, who also stressed the need for the governors to encourage their wives in the project to rehabilitate the victims of drug addiction made the charge when the delegation of wives of northern states governors’ Forum visited him in Jalingo the State capital.
Ishaku, who described drug abuse in the County particularly in the North as endemic and alarming said the efforts of the Governors’ Wives was highly commendable and must he encouraged.
While calling on the governors to support their wives to energize them do more for their States, Ishaku lauded the Forum for their unique approach towards tackling the endemic problem of drug abuse in the region.
Speaking, the Chairperson of the Forum, Dr. (Mrs) Aminat Bello who doubles as the Wife of the Niger State governor said they were in Taraba State to support the Wife of the State Governor, Anna Darius Ishaku in her efforts of rehabilitating victims of drug abuse.
Mrs. Aminat Bello noted that the Forum’s approach of sensitising and rehabilitating drug addicts has given hope to thousands of Youths in the North.
Earlier, in her address of welcome, Barr. Anna Ishaku said drug abuse was partly responsible for most of the crimes threatening the country today and called for support against it.
She, therefore, appreciated members of the Forum for coming to Taraba State to give support to her efforts at taking addicted youths out of the drug debacle.
