Nigerians have react to the increase in price of cooking gas across the country.
Reacting to the surge in the price of cooking gas, a native of Jabi, Abuja, Suleiman Anas who express fear over the recently increase is gas price.
“I am not too surprise about the increase in the cost of gas, compare to other commodities and the even petrol, but my fear is what will happen to the cost of cooking gas in the next 2 – 3 years?
“The cost of living keeps getting higher everyday, and source of individuals income becomes slim, what is the government actually doing about this.”
Another resident of Kubuwa, Mrs Mary Johnson has called on the government to also bring their attention down to some of the petty things in the market which get increased profusely just like the cooking gas.
“Normally, I often feel my 3kg gas cylinder for N800, but now the price has been increased to N1300. Just look at the margin. It is unfair and this can only bring suffering. I am calling on the government to come to our aid.”
Nkiru Chioma, a student of Federal College of Education, Zuba Abuja, also lamented on what she described as punishment from the government. She maintained that government will not deny the fact that they are not aware of the increase in the price of cooking gas.
“Government provide us with poor electricity which we can not rely to cook and do other things we need to do, we now rely on cooking with gas. The price of refilling cooking gas now has almost double what it used to be last year. How are we expected to survive?
“All priority shouldn’t be given to petrol alone, women and students also values gas cooking which produce less air pollution compare to cooking with firewoods. The price should be regulated accordingly to elevate the suffering of the people.”
Responding to this, the manager of Jerry gas limited, Mr Jerry. He explained that while customers complained about the increase in price, some return home with their cylinders unable to afford the price, the retailer are also at loss.
“We encounter a lot of challenges, while, PMS, kerosene can be subsidised, LPG gas are not. Which make the business difficult for us.
“Comparing what was obtainable in the market as of last year, the price of gas has gone up to 40% this year, the business has been very dull.
“I call on the Federal government of Nigeria to look into this and ensure that the price of cooking gas is regulated and subsidised for Nigerians.”
