Niger State Governor vows to cultivate 7.6m hectares of land to enhance food production

The Governor of Niger State, Umaru Bago, has stated that his administration will prioritize plans to cultivate 7.6 million hectares of land to enhance agricultural production and food security across the country.

Bago made this assertion when he received a blueprint from a pressure group called “Technocrats and Professionals in Niger State” at the Government House in Minna on Friday.

He explained that the state is blessed with 76,000 square kilometers of arable land, equivalent to 7.6 million hectares.

“With this vast land, we can engage in aquaculture, fishery, and cultivate both food and cash crops, including animal husbandry. This will significantly boost our food production and ensure food security for the people of Niger,” he said.

The governor emphasized that this initiative is part of his administration’s agenda to increase food production in the state.

He expressed his intention to study the blueprint and its recommendations for possible adoption. He also urged Niger state indigenes living abroad to return home and support ongoing efforts to develop the state for the benefit of all.

Earlier, Professor Yahaya Kuta, the leader of the team, explained that the purpose of the visit was to congratulate the governor on his election and present the blueprint to him.

He stated that the blueprint focuses primarily on agriculture, education, health, tourism, gender, and law reforms that will contribute to the administration’s quest for development.
