In response to the challenge posed by erosion on its facilities in Anambra State, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, recently conducted a comprehensive tour of Navy installations within the state.
The primary objective of this tour was to evaluate the prevailing conditions and identify strategies to enhance operational effectiveness.
During his inspection of the Naval Outpost in Onitsha, Vice Admiral Ogalla engaged with journalists and elaborated on the purpose of the visit.
He emphasized that the tour was aimed at gaining a firsthand understanding of the state of units and establishments to devise strategies for operational improvement.
Notably, he highlighted the pressing issue of erosion impacting the facility and expressed the Navy’s intent to collaborate with pertinent agencies to counteract this challenge.
“The underlying purpose of this visit is to assess our units and establishments in their current state. We are determined to analyze the existing conditions and devise effective strategies to enhance our operational capabilities,” Vice Admiral Ogalla stated.
He further noted the visible consequences of erosion on the shoreline and the collapsed fence at the Naval Outpost in Onitsha.
Additionally, he drew attention to the flooding issue that affects the foundation of the unit.
In response, he expressed the Navy’s commitment to addressing these challenges while seeking assistance from relevant agencies and stakeholders to prevent the complete submersion of the facility due to erosion.
Vice Admiral Ogalla also shared insights into the Navy’s continuous efforts to combat insecurity and oil theft within the Niger Delta region.
He affirmed that the Navy is actively formulating strategies to strengthen its presence in this critical area.
“Through our assessment, we have identified challenges that need to be addressed. This includes our role in policing the nation and combating oil theft in the Niger Delta, a crucial aspect we are focusing on. The Naval base has demonstrated its effectiveness in carrying out policing duties, despite the challenges. We are encouraged by their dedication,” Vice Admiral Ogalla stated.
He further emphasized that the Navy is committed to refining its strategies to combat oil theft and enhance overall operations in this critical area.
