The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to protecting the nation’s environment as the country celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In his public message on the occasion of Nigeria’s 66th independence on Thursday, Lawal described the anniversary as a testament to the resilience, unity, and enduring spirit of its people.
He said the anniversary offers an opportunity not only to reflect on the nation’s journey but also to look ahead under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.
“As we reflect on the journey so far and look ahead under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we must also renew our collective commitment to safeguarding the environment that sustains us all,” the minister stated.
Lawal stressed that a healthy environment remains the foundation of national prosperity, food security, public health, and climate resilience.
He urged citizens to work collectively to combat pressing environmental challenges, including desertification, pollution, flooding, and deforestation, while promoting sustainable practices.
“Let us work together to combat desertification, pollution, flooding, and deforestation; promote sustainable practices; and build a greener, cleaner Nigeria for present and future generations,” he said.
The minister prayed for God’s blessing upon the Federal Republic of Nigeria and for wisdom to protect the nation’s natural heritage as it advances towards shared prosperity.
