Lagos State Govt, Dangote, BUA, UBA, Others Win NatureNews HEAD Awards

In a monumental stride towards recognizing environmental stewardship and climate action, the NatureNews 2023 HEAD Award will celebrate the exceptional efforts of several key players in Nigeria’s sustainability landscape.

The prestigious accolades will be bestowed upon distinguished organizations and individuals during the 3rd Anniversary Lecture themed “Climate Change & Energy Transition in Nigeria.”

The awardees include Lagos state government, BUA foundation, Dangote Cement plc, United Bank of Africa, amongst others.

The illustrious winners, Lagos State Government emerged triumphant in the category of Environmental Impact, lauded for its unwavering commitment to mitigating ecological threats and fostering sustainable practices within the state.

Dangote Cement, a cornerstone of Nigeria’s industrial landscape, clinched the accolade for environmental sustainability, underscoring its pivotal role in championing eco-conscious practices and setting industry benchmarks for responsible production.

In recognition of its proactive stance towards climate mitigation, BUA Group was honoured with the prestigious award for Climate Actions, applauding its multifaceted approach towards reducing carbon footprint and promoting eco-friendly operations.

UBA, a leading financial institution, will be celebrated for its groundbreaking strides in climate financing, reaffirming its dedication to channelling resources towards projects that catalyze environmental resilience and sustainability.

Other winners include H. E. Obong Victor Attah, the former governor of Akwa Ibom state who emerged winner of lifetime achievement towards sustainable environment.

On the winner of climate action, the individual category, Funto Boroffice and Femi Oye, clinched the award.

Subsequently, Sterling Bank won at the energy transition category, Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board (NCDMB) emerged at climate adoption category, Kogi state government with climate mitigation while Adamawa state government was given gender inclusiveness award.

The NatureNews 2023 HEAD Award ceremony stands as a testament to the collective resolve of stakeholders across sectors to embrace sustainability as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s developmental trajectory.
