Kwara govt supports ACReSAL with tractors, farm inputs to boost agriculture

By Abdullahi Lukman

The Kwara State Government has handed over 16 tractors and a large quantity of farm inputs to all local government chairmen, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity and food security across the state.

The distribution was part of the Kwara Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACreSAL) initiative, which focuses on supporting farmers, particularly women and youth.

Alongside the tractors, the government provided maize, rice, and soybean seeds, fertilizers, herbicides, inoculants, and knapsack sprayers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Afeez Alabi, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, said the initiative reflects Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to an agricultural revolution in Kwara.

“Today marks a milestone as we deploy these tractors to all 16 local governments for the benefit of our farmers,” he stated.

Dr. Alabi added that the ministry would collaborate with local government chairmen and the state farmers’ welfare committee to ensure the inputs reach farmers at the grassroots level.

The tractors will be supervised by the ministry and the farmers’ support committee to guarantee proper use.

Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kwara, thanked the state government for its support and assured that local governments would monitor the use of the tractors and inputs to achieve desired outcomes.

Mallam Abdullahi Kaiama, chairman of the Kwara State Farmers Support and Welfare Committee, praised the governor’s efforts and promised that the inputs would be distributed free of charge to farmers.

This initiative is part of Kwara State’s broader effort to strengthen food security and empower farmers through access to modern agricultural tools and resources.
