Katsina govt excites farmers, crashes fertiliser cost by 50%

Farmers in Katsina State will access fertiliser at a subsidised rate of ₦25,000 per bag, following government procurement aimed at easing production costs for the 2026 wet season.
The state has acquired 20,000 metric tonnes (about 400,000 bags) of fertiliser, including NPK 20:10:10, NPK 15:15:15, and urea, which will be distributed across all wards.
Farmers welcomed the price reduction from ₦45,000 in the previous season but expressed concern over rising insecurity in parts of the state, warning it could disrupt farming activities if not addressed.
The government said the intervention is designed to improve food production, support rural livelihoods, and ensure timely access to farm inputs, while farmers’ associations pledged transparency in distribution and confirmed plans to include certified seeds in the rollout.
