The Jigawa State Government has established the Jigawa State Farm Mechanization Service Company Limited as part of efforts to modernize agriculture and boost productivity across the state. The initiative, introduced under the administration of Governor Mallam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, is aimed at improving farmers’ access to mechanized services and accelerating the transformation of the state’s agricultural sector. Speaking on the development, the Pioneer Managing Director of the company, Dr. Ado Nasiru, said the new firm has already engaged about 1,000 staff. According to him, the large workforce reflects the government’s commitment to agricultural mechanization, job creation, professional service delivery, and building a more efficient and sustainable agricultural support system. The establishment of the company aligns with the Namadiadministration’s broader strategy to reduce drudgery in farming, increase yields, and position Jigawa as a hub for modern, mechanized agriculture.

The Jigawa State Government has rolled out 60 Farm Mechanisation Service Centres across the state as part of a major drive to modernise agriculture and improve productivity among farmers. The initiative, under Governor Mallam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, will see two centres established in each of the state’s 30 House of Assembly constituencies. This is to ensure that mechanised farming services are brought closer to rural and grassroots communities. According to the plan, each of the 60 centres will be equipped with seven tractors. With this arrangement, a total of 420 tractors will be deployed statewide to support land preparation and other farm operations.Government officials say the strategic spread of the centres is designed to give smallholder farmers timely access to modern machinery at affordable rates, reduce drudgery, and expand the area under cultivation during each farming season. Beyondequipment deployment, each centre will operate with a full complement of staff to ensure smooth service delivery. This includes a Centre Manager, Tractor Drivers, Mechanics, and administrative personnel. The structure is expected to provide technical, operational, and maintenance support needed to keep the tractors functional and services reliable throughout the year. The Namadi administration says the project is a key component of its agricultural transformation agenda aimed at boosting food production, creating jobs, and making farming more attractive to youths. By decentralising mechanisation services to the constituency level, the government hopes to address one of the major challenges facing farmers: limited access to tractors and other implements at critical times of the farming calendar. With about 1,000 personnel already engaged under the newly established Jigawa State Farm Mechanisation Service Company Limited, authorities say the centres will not only improve farm efficiency but also serve as hubs for employment and skills development across the 27 local government areas. Officials add that monitoring mechanisms will be put in place to ensure the centres remain sustainable and responsive to the needs of farmers in their respective communities.

Government officials say the initiative reflects the administration’s determination to shift the state’s agricultural sector from labour-intensive practices to a modern, technology-driven, and commercially viable system. With the deployment of tractors and professional mechanisation services across 60 centres in the state, farmers are expected to expand the area under cultivation, carry out farm operations on time, and reduce dependence on manual labour. Authorities note that timely access to machinery will also help address longstanding challenges associated with traditional farming and ultimately improve productivity. The government further stated that the programme is designed to make significant contributions to food security, job creation, rural economic development, and improved livelihoods for farming communities across Jigawa’s 27 local government areas. By making mechanisation services more accessible at the grassroots, officials say the Namadiadministration is positioning agriculture as a key driver of growth and a viable business for youths and smallholder farmers in the state.

The Jigawa State Government says its farm mechanisationprogramme is designed to bring critical support directly to smallholder farmers while creating the right conditions for commercial and large-scale agricultural production. Officials noted that by locating mechanisation services at the constituency level, the initiative will not only improve farm productivity but also stimulate the growth of agricultural service enterprises across the state. The programme is also expected to generate technical and operational jobs, strengthen local agricultural value chains, and build a more resilient and sustainable rural economy. Speaking on the initiative, the Pioneer Managing Director of the Jigawa State Farm Mechanisation Service Company Limited, Dr. Ado Nasiru, said the company is positioned to drive Governor Umar A. Namadi’s agricultural modernisation agenda. According to him, the company will serve as a key platform for unlocking the state’s vast agricultural potential and creating new opportunities for farmers and agribusinesses. With about 1,000 staff, 60 service centres and 420 tractors being deployed, the government says the project represents a major step toward making farming more profitable, efficient, and attractive to youths in Jigawa State.

The initiative is being implemented under the leadership of Governor Mallam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, through the newly established Jigawa State Farm Mechanisation Service Company Limited. Government officials say the programme represents a bold and deliberate effort to modernise farming, empower smallholder and commercial farmers, expand cultivated farmland, and create employment opportunities across rural communities. According to the administration, the mechanisation drive is central to the state’s agricultural transformation agenda. It is expected to improve access to timely farming services, reduce reliance on manual labour, boost productivity, strengthen food security, and make agriculture more profitable and attractive to youths. With two centres and seven tractors deployed in each constituency, authorities say the strategy is to bring modern machinery and professional services closer to farming communities. Officials added that beyond equipment deployment, the project will strengthen agricultural value chains, support agribusiness growth, and help build a more productive, resilient, sustainable, and prosperous agricultural economy in Jigawa. The Namadi administration described the intervention as a major step toward unlocking the state’s vast agricultural potential and positioning Jigawa as a model for mechanised farming in Northern Nigeria.
