Human-wildlife conflict incidents in Uganda have declined by approximately 34 per cent, according to the Uganda Wildlife Authority’s (UWA) 2025/2026 performance report.
The decline follows intensified efforts by UWA to reduce conflicts between communities and wildlife through improved preventive infrastructure, community surveillance and rapid response interventions.
Human-wildlife conflict remains a major conservation challenge in the country, often resulting in loss of human lives, destruction of crops and property, and retaliatory killings of wild animals.
As Benjamin Jumbe reports, UWA is strengthening measures to protect communities and wildlife while promoting peaceful coexistence.
