In recent years the notion of graduates engaging only in white collar jobs have changed. With the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, incorporating skills to its curriculum, graduates are no longer shying away from venturing into smale and medium scale businesses.
Augusta Neddan owner of Neddan International Poultry Farm is one of such Nigerian young graduates who has found poultry farming as a source of income.
Recently, Naturenews visited her farm to see the tremendous impact she is making in not just contributing to the diary needs of people around Abuja, but to the economic development of the country.
By employing a few staff, Neddan has taken these youths away from crime and criminality, while providing food on their tables.
Speaking with our correspondent, Neddan said a friend introduced her to the business during her service year in Abuja.
She added that presently she has 5 employees and she has been with them now for 3 years.
Neddan used the opportunity to encourage employers to treat their employees with care in order to get the best out of them.
The Political Science graduate turned poultry farmer, also urged women in particular to be passionate about farming business.
She highlighted the need for those in business to always seek relevant information about their ventures.
In her words: “Farming is a very good business. In fact, apart from this poultry farming I also engage in rice farming.
“I urge women to be proud of whatever they are doing. Most people used to say what is a fine lady like me doing with farming business but I don’t use to mind them because that farming has been my major source of income.”
According to her, when she started the business she encountered lot of challenges because of lack of proper information and direction.
The CEO added that poultry farming, though ignored by many is a lucrative business with high profit margin.
