A Natural Resource Practitioner, Mr. Gagarin Madaki has explained the economic importance of the Kaduna Inland Dry Port, which will serve as an avenue for Nigeria to diversify its economy instead of relying on the oil industry.

Madaki, who is an exporter of ginger to Europe, India and China, said this last Thursday in Kaduna while delivering a Keynote lecture at a workshop organized by the Nigerian Shippers Council on Kaduna Inland Dry Port.

He said that the increase in population and demand for goods, with less earnings which has put pressure on the Naira causing inflation is the reason for the call to diversify the economy by promoting export from Kaduna Inland Dry Port.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Promotion Of Export From Kaduna Inland Dry Port As Key To Nigeria’s Diversification,’ Madaki, who is also the National Publicity Secretary for the National Ginger Association of Nigeria, said the inflation rate last three years %15.97(2021), %13.25(2020) %11.4 (2019) higher than the African and in sub-Saharan Africa exceeded %16 in 2017, Long term effect bankruptcy and need to achieve a favorable trade balance are reasons Nigeria must diversify the economy.

Explaining how this diversification can work through promoting exports from Kaduna Inland Dry Port,  he said, ‘’Through Exports of Goods and Services, expected through several ports Sea, Air and undergoing  current sensitization where the importance of using KIDP (Kaduna Inland Dry Port) are explained. Also, how to focus on physical export of goods from northern Nigeria should be sensitized.

While Highlighting top agric commodities export in the North, he listed that solid minerals and agric commodities are targeted for diversification.

In the North, he said, ginger (fresh and dry split), turmeric, hibiscus flower (zobo), sesame seeds, gum Arabic, shear nuts and butter, quarts, topaz and among others are exported.

Explaining the advantages and processes of using the Kaduna Inland Dry Port, he said, ‘’ When using other agents you will be required to complete a lot of the processes yourself. Besides you have peace of mind and not worry about a one man agent no matter how cheap you think he may be, who can fail you in several ways for instance using fake documents, process speed, in the event of terrible illness or even death.

‘’As long has you have a valid export license from Nigerian Exports Promotion Council, NEPC, your first and following  steps are  as follows;

•  You go online (www.tradesystem.gov.ng) to process your NXP (Export Proceeds Form)

•  However, using KIDP who are a “ONE STOP SHOP SOLUTION PROVIDER”  will handle most of the process apart from your NESS payment which goes on the portal  mentioned above and must be paid by you besides their logistics providers are usually verified and on arrangement can organize “GOOD’s IN TRANSIT” insurance through a top tier insurance company. Upon creating your transaction account, you proceed to log in to the portal, attach the following documents and upload: NEPC certificate, Invoice and Parking list.

Then you submit on the portal for approval get your NXP number. .

•  You summit you NXP number to KIDP’s clearing and forwarding desk, who will now book for an empty container for you and get you the earliest and fastest booking for your cargo to its destination.

•  They will do the needful with all the required agencies, and when ready your cargo is stuffed (loaded) into a container.

•  Exporter pays Ness fee, usually a negligible percentage of your Export invoice value (below %1), then attach all supporting documents.

•  Pre-inspection agents inspect the goods and documents attached to the cargo then if satisfactory generate Clean Certificate of Inspection (CCI). When CCI is generated KIDP will proceed to custom portal to get Single Goods Declaration (SGD).

•  Upon getting all documents, the cargo is sent to Lagos on train or truck, whichever is available for onward shipment on to vessel.’’
