Gov Mbah pledges to generate electricity for Enugu by 2026

By Ojugbele Omotunde

In a bold move to address the persistent power outages, Enugu State’s Governor Peter Mbah has unveiled an ambitious plan to achieve self-sufficiency in energy production and distribution by 2026.

This announcement came on Saturday, during a town hall meeting, where Governor Mbah engaged with stakeholders to outline his vision for a brighter, more reliable future.

Governor Mbah emphasized the establishment of the State Energy Regulatory Commission as a cornerstone of this initiative.

The commission will tackle legislative and regulatory challenges, paving the way for significant power sector reforms.

Its creation signals the state’s dedication to supporting local businesses and fulfilling its promise to energize Enugu through strategic partnerships and private sector involvement.

The construction of new transmitter lines is a testament to the state’s commitment to progress. By the end of 2026, Enugu aims to be a beacon of energy production, with the private sector playing a pivotal role in ensuring a stable and continuous power supply for both residential and commercial needs.

Governor Mbah’s vision extends beyond energy. The state has embarked on constructing 260 smart schools across all political wards, with 160 already underway and more to follow.

By 2025, these institutions will offer every child in Enugu a free, compulsory 12-year education, including early childhood development programs.

Addressing healthcare, the governor announced the construction of 260 type II health centers to combat the high maternal mortality rate. With 30 centers already commissioned and more in the pipeline, this initiative is set to enhance the state’s medical infrastructure significantly.

The administration’s commitment is also evident in the healthcare workforce expansion, with an increase in the number of nurses serving in state facilities.

This investment in human capital is a clear indication of the government’s resolve to improve the quality of life for its citizens.

Governor Mbah’s comprehensive approach to tackling Enugu’s challenges is a promising step towards a self-sustaining future, marked by robust infrastructure, educational excellence, and improved healthcare services.
