Floods displace over 135,000 in Nigeria in 2025

Flooding in Nigeria has displaced at least 135,764 people and affected more than 409,000 across 27 states between January and October 2025, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The agency’s latest flood dashboard, released on Saturday, identifies Adamawa, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom as the most impacted states, with 60,608, 57,951, and 46,233 people affected respectively.
NEMA reported 238 flood-related deaths across nine states: Niger, Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, and Yobe. In addition, 826 people were injured, and 115 are still missing.
Children have been the most affected demographic, with 188,118 impacted, alongside 125,307 women, 77,423 men, 18,866 elderly individuals, and 2,418 people with disabilities.
The floods have also damaged 47,708 houses and submerged 62,653 farmlands, raising concerns over housing stability and food security in affected areas.
In total, 117 Local Government Areas in the following 27 states have been impacted: Abia, FCT, Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kogi, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, and Yobe.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide emergency support to affected communities.
