Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has assessed the impact of recent floods in Damboa and Chibok local government areas, confirming that 1,209 houses across six communities were severely damaged.
Following an order from Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, SEMA conducted the rapid evaluation in affected areas, including Gumsuri, Garjang, and Wovi in Damboa, as well as Mboa, Whuntaku, and Yarchida villages in Chibok.
Acting Director General of SEMA, Ali Abdullahi Isa, reported that 1,103 houses in Damboa and 106 in Chibok suffered damage due to the floods.
He assured that relief items would be distributed to support displaced families and those affected by the disaster.
Governor Zulum expressed condolences to victims and families who lost loved ones, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing assistance and preventing future calamities.
“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by these devastating floods,” he said.
In addition to the flood response, SEMA has also delivered relief materials to victims of a recent windstorm in Rumirgo town, Askira Uba local government area.
The agency’s team was welcomed by local leaders as they coordinated ongoing disaster response efforts.
SEMA continues to work closely with the state government to address the urgent needs of affected communities and mitigate the impact of natural disasters in Borno.
