Fintiri declares monthly environmental sanitation day in Adamawa

By Faridat Salifu

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has designated the last Saturday of every month as the official state sanitation day towards enhancing health and environmental cleanliness across the state.

The development was announced on Wednesday by the state’s Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Niedo Geoffrey Kofulto. The announcement was made following the State Executive Council meeting directing full participation of all residents.

“Governor Fintiri has instructed that all citizens comply with the monthly sanitation day, with taskforce teams deployed to ensure its implementation across all 21 local government areas,” Kofulto stated.

The introduction of this sanitation drive is part of a broader effort to improve public health standards in Adamawa.

In light of recent health concerns, particularly the measles outbreak that claimed over 40 lives in Mubi-North and Gombi local areas, the state government is doubling down on preventative measures.

She said: “The success in curtailing the spread of measles is attributed to the state government’s proactive approach.”

Ln addition, the Commissioner urged stakeholders in the health sector to build on the progress made and continue their efforts to prevent future outbreaks.

She also encouraged parents to ensure their children receive free vaccinations regularly, reinforcing the importance of immunization in safeguarding public health.

This combined focus on environmental cleanliness and health interventions reflects Adamawa State’s commitment to creating a healthier, more sustainable living environment for its residents.

The monthly sanitation day is expected to play a crucial role in achieving these objectives, promoting community involvement and responsibility in maintaining public health standards.
