Fidelity Bank Plc has provided food supplies to more than 2,500 residents across eight communities in Uromi and Irrua, Edo State, as part of its efforts to support vulnerable families and improve food security.
The intervention was carried out under the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank initiative at the Uromi Town Hall in Esan Central Local Government Area.
Speaking at the distribution exercise, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, said the programme was designed to provide immediate support to families facing food insecurity while strengthening community resilience.
Nwagboh said the intervention was also aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger, improving nutrition and promoting food security.
He disclosed that Fidelity Bank distributes 10,000 food packs monthly through the Fidelity Food Bank programme, in partnership with 19 organisations across the country.
According to him, the Uromi intervention was targeted at families across eight communities to provide relief to those struggling with food insecurity.
The Edo State Government commended the bank for extending the initiative to residents of Uromi. The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Jerry Uwangue, who represented Governor Monday Okpebholo at the event, said the intervention demonstrated the role corporate organisations could play in supporting communities.
Uwangue urged other corporate organisations to support residents in the communities where they operate, particularly as families continue to face rising demands on their resources.
Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to the bank and its partners, saying the food supplies would help ease the cost of feeding their families.
Launched in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank is one of Fidelity Bank’s flagship corporate social responsibility programmes. The initiative is focused on reducing hunger and malnutrition and supporting communities affected by food insecurity.
The bank said the programme has distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones since its launch.
