The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Nebeolisa Anako, has revealed that the Federal Government has established 78 priority actions aimed at transforming the entire food systems, from farm to table, including waste management.
To facilitate the implementation of these actions, the National Steering Committee on the Implementation of Food Systems Pathway has scheduled to meet in Anambra to prepare for the upcoming stocktaking event in Rome on July 24, which will feature a side event on July 26.
Mr. Anako mentioned that the meeting will be attended by coordinators from nine states across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. These states include Borno (North East), Kano (North West), Kwara (North Central), Lagos and Osun (South West), Akwa Ibom and Edo (South South), Enugu and Anambra (South East). He will chair the meeting.
Additionally, a retreat will take place at Uzanu Farm in Edo from June 25 to 26. This retreat will involve coordinating directors from the zones and members of the steering committee. The main focus of the retreat will be to discuss and finalize the template for the collation of the national report, which will be submitted to the United Nations (UN) Food System Coordination HUB by Nigeria.
Mr. Anako further mentioned that the national steering committee was established by Prince Clem Agba, the former Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, based on the recommendation of Dr. Sanjo Faniran, the national convener.
