Fact-check: Can fermented banana tree drink get rid of kidney stone disease?

Claim: There is a trending social media content claiming that banana tree drink can prevent kidney stone.

A medical mixture derived from banana trees was shared on the Instagram page @mud pot channel, which has over 165 thousand followers. The post claimed that kidney stones are treated by drinking the tea.

The picture has received 2.7 million likes; 9,668 comments, and 617k shares since it was posted, depicting an elderly guy down a banana tree, covering it with a banana leaf, and then leaving it overnight.

The assertion was investigated by NatureNews, Africa’s topmost nature newspaper that is dedicated to providing accurate analysis to stop the spread of false information, particularly among users of social media.

Findings : After conducting an investigation using the Google search engine, NatureFact, the fact-checking unit of NatureNews, discovered that there is no specific claim about utilizing fermented banana trees to cure kidney stones disease.

But because the banana contains potassium and magnesium, which aid to rid the body of kidney stone, it was assumed that it can also cure the disease. However there is no proven case or research finding that is in sync with the claims.

Verdict: The claim is false as there is no research that supports it.
