The Bayelsa State Government has reiterated its readiness to partner with reputable individuals and corporate investors to harness the vast potential of its blue economy sector.
Speaking during a dinner hosted in honour of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 47, 2025 participants of NIPSS in Yenagoa, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, emphasized the state’s abundant marine resources and called for investments, particularly in the development of a deep-sea port.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Doubara Atasi, the Deputy Governor described Bayelsa as not only rich in oil and gas but also blessed with low-hanging fruits in the marine sector that are ripe for investment.
He stressed the foresight of the current administration in establishing the country’s first Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy at the state level to provide institutional support for this critical sector.
Ewhrudjakpo assured that Bayelsa is safe and welcoming for investments and urged the NIPSS participants to act as ambassadors for the state by spreading word about its economic potential.
He also appealed to the study team to submit their findings promptly to assist the state government in formulating strategies to develop the sector based on the outcomes of their visit.
The Deputy Governor noted that the state is keen on maximizing the opportunities in the blue economy just as it has in the oil and gas industry.
He expressed optimism that the knowledge and insights gathered during the tour would contribute meaningfully to the state’s vision for a vibrant marine economy.
According to him, Bayelsa is investment-friendly and has a government that is open to critique and new ideas, especially from policy experts and institutions like NIPSS.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the SSG’s Office, Mr. Felix Asingbi, commended the study team for choosing Bayelsa and maintaining discipline throughout their visit.
Ayawei expressed confidence that the visit would catalyze progress in the blue economy sector and open up new development pathways for the state.
Also speaking, the Leader of the NIPSS Study Team, Air Vice Marshall Mohammed Umar, appreciated the exceptional hospitality of the Bayelsa State Government.
He stated that the tour gave the team a first-hand understanding of the state’s vast blue economy resources and encouraged the government to intensify efforts in developing the sector.
He emphasized that Bayelsa has great potential for maritime growth and sustainable coastal development, and its efforts so far are commendable.
The engagement between the Bayelsa Government and the NIPSS delegation reflects the state’s growing focus on unlocking the economic value of its marine and coastal environments through strategic partnerships and expert policy input.
