Anambra govt reiterates commitment to tackling gully erosion

By Fatima Saka

The Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment to tackling gully erosion menace through pre-erosion management.

According to the state government, the era of post-erosion management, resulting in destruction of scarce land, lives and properties was over.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Felix Odimegwu, stated this in Awka on Tuesday, at the opening session of the Nigeria Erosion Watershed Management Project – Additional Financing (NEWMAP) Implementation Completion and Result Report Mission (ICRM).

The commissioner grieves that the state had lost over 70 per cent of its land mass to gully erosion, urging NEWMAP and its funding partners to declare a state of emergency on the erosion menace.
