A former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN is the special guest of honour at the second anniversary lecture of Nature News, the management has said.

The lecture together with the presentation of HEAD Awards comes up on Thursday 19 January, 2023 at the Shehu Musa Yar`Adua Centre, Abuja.

In a statement by its Managing Director, Rasheed Yusuf, NatureNews said the legal luminary would be the special guest of honour.

The NatureNews second anniversary lecture keynote address, the statement added, would be presented by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed, while it would be chaired by the Emir of Dutse, HRH Alhaji (Dr) Nuhu Sanusi.

Kanu Godwin Agabi, SAN, is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who was a senator, and was twice Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation during the presidency of Olusegun Obasanjo.

Agabi was appointed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on 15 September 1997.

His rich and wide experience in the legal profession spans a period of over 40 years.

He specializes in constitutional law, criminal law, administrative, commercial law and practice. Others include electoral law and practice, public and international law and general litigation. Kanu Agabi is currently the Principal Partner at Kanu G. Agabi & Associates, a leading law firm in Nigeria.

A holder of the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) for his contribution to national building, Kanu Agabi was also a former Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Good Governance.

The theme for this year’s anniversary lecture is “Climate Financing for Sustainable Environment in Nigeria”.

As the theme is centred a major topical issue at the recently concluded 27th session of COP in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, the event will have in attendance high profile guests including state governors, top government officials, members of the National Assembly, diplomatic corps, youth and women organisations.

NatureNews is Africa’s first digital newspaper on environment and climate change. It made its debut on 1st October, 2020 and, in two years, it has earned both national and international recognition with eminent personalities from across Africa and beyond serving on its Advisory Board (www.naturenews.africa/advisoryboard).

The first anniversary lecture/HEAD Awards ceremony was held at Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja at an impressive event attended by critical stakeholders including the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman H. Adamu; and Tanzanian former Minister of Environment, Prof. Mark Mwandosya, who gave the keynote speech on “Climate Africa: Resilience and Mitigation”. The Emir of Dutse HRH, Dr. Mohammad Nuhu Sanusi, former Chairman Standard Chartered Bank, Alh. M.I Yahaya; and former Chairman of First Bank Plc, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, were special guests.
