United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for greater adoption of renewable energy to address the risks posed by climate change, warning that the dangers of the climate crisis remain real.
Guterres made the call in a post on X on Saturday, arguing that renewable energy offers countries a more sustainable route to energy security and economic growth.
He said solar and wind energy were widely available and noted that renewables had become the cheapest source of new electricity generation in much of the world.
According to the UN chief, expanding renewable energy could help countries reduce their dependence on conventional energy sources while strengthening energy independence and supporting sustainable development.
His comments contrast with the position of U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly questioned the seriousness of climate change and has previously described it as a “hoax” and “the greatest con job.”
