Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Mr Akinola Oladunjoye, on Thursday, appealed to residents to stop burning wastes in the drains.
Oladunjoye made the appeal when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Eda-Oniyo in the state.
He said residents could only live healthy lives in a clean environment, hence his appeal to adopt and maintain cleanliness to avoid diseases.

The chairman said his administration gave utmost priority to the welfare and health conditions of the people.
“I appeal to every resident to always take wastes to designated dumpsites to burn and stop dumping in the drains.
“If we must curb flooding in our communities and avert loss of properties, we must ensure that we keep our drains clean.
“Wastes should be taken to the appropriate dumpsites and not dumped in the drains to avoid people contacting diseases like cholera, malaria and other infectious diseases,’’ he said.
Oladunjoye said Environmental Officers had been working hard to ensure drains in major markets and residential areas were kept clean to allow free flow of storm and other waters.
The chairman urged residents not to allow the local government officials to start sanctioning them before carried out regular cleaning of the drains in their areas. (NAN)
