TY Danjuma University bill avances to second reading

By Faridat Salifu

The House of Representatives on has passed for second reading a bill seeking to establish the TY Danjuma Federal University of Agriculture and Solid Minerals in Jalingo, Taraba State.

The proposed institution is designed to focus on agricultural development, mining studies, and applied sciences aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s resource-based economy.

The bill was sponsored by Sadiq Tafida, who represents the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency of Taraba State.

Lawmakers said on Wednesday the initiative reflects growing concerns over the need to expand specialised universities that can directly support national economic diversification and skills development.

During plenary, the bill received general support as members noted that agriculture and solid minerals remain key sectors with untapped potential for employment and revenue generation.

The session was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who guided the bill through its second reading stage.

With the approval, the bill now moves to the committee stage for further legislative scrutiny before any final passage decision is taken by the House.
